Weddings Make Me Ramble

Somehow there are only sixty days left before the wedding...

WOW.

Don't ask me how we got here so fast - I can't answer that. It feels like just yesterday I was getting excited over double digits, and now we're almost there. Two months. That will no doubt go by in a flash.

The invitations have been sent out. The responses have begun to slowly trickle in. The pre-wedding-gown-alteration diet has begun. The wedding transportation has been booked. The menu has been chosen. The engagement shoot has been done. Jason has a wedding band. After a drama with a groomsman backing out, we're all set with a new (& better!) one. It's all coming together.

This coming Saturday and Sunday, we'll be busy the entire weekend - we've booked in for our mandatory pre-wedding counselling experience. I'm looking forward to having some us time, where we're not just doing our usual routines of coming home, chatting, geeking out online and doing what we do. This will be quality time to get into the nitty gritty, and while I doubt there'll be any big surprises or bombshells (heck, it's been almost nine years now, I think we know each other pretty well!) I'm still interested to see how it pans out.

I renewed my driving licence yesterday, and was told by the woman at the RTA that in just a few months, I'll be needing to come back and adjust my details with my new married name. It sort of hit me then: I'll be someone new. The same person, but with a whole new name and a whole new label. I won't be 'Miss S'. I'll be 'Mrs D'. My name, this name I've had for 26 years, won't be mine. Or it will, but not formally. I wonder how long it takes to get used to a change like that?

So, will you use your maiden name at all? We have plenty of people at work who use their first name at work and married name outside work.

I've been married for a year and a half and I still am not completely used to my new last name. I was pretty sad when I changed my name but I'm glad I did.

Oh and I still am amazed that I have a husband and still stare at my ring all the time. Maybe someday I will get used to it?

60 Days! That's so soon! How exciting!!!

When Tim and I did the pre-marital counseling thing, we were put in separate rooms to fill out a questionnaire about pretty much everything: Opinions on kids, drugs, finances, EVERYTHING. When we got our results back, the priest asked us if we had somehow compared our answers during the test (from our separate rooms) because he'd never seen a couple answer everything so similarly. Obviously, I took this as an extreme compliment that we were the most compatible couple in the world. With 9 years under your belt, I'm sure you and J will have similar results!

and trust me, the new name thing is so weird, haha. it's been seven months for me with it and i still haven't totally adjusted, it's just funny, haha.

That's so exciting! Don't worry, I"m here at over four months post-wedding and I'm STILL not used to my new name!! :)

These two months will FLY by! As for the name business, I feel like the easiest thing to do is just dive in headfirst. Yes, it was completely weird to--bam!-- become an entirely new "person" by filling out a couple forms, but it gets easier every time I make restaurant reservations or have to spell my (still newish after a year and a half) last name over the phone.

Weee, so excited for you!!!! :) It's been 2 years for me and I'm still not used to being a Mrs. I think I won't be until I'm a mommy and getting called Mrs at school plays, sports, etc. :)

Cannot believe it's almost time! It seems like it wasn't too long ago that you two got engaged and were starting to enjoy your long engagement. I'm so excited for you!!

How exciting! The weirdest thing post marriage was saying "my husband"

We decided to put our names together but somehow I hardly ever use it that way, I just revert to my old name but my husband uses my name and dropped his, probably because it unpronouncable!
