Wah.

I think I broke my finger today.

Or if it's not broken, it's at least badly swollen or jarred or sprained.

All I know is that I managed to slam it in door at school.

And then get it stuck behind the door handle.

And then twist it to get it free.

I heard a weird crunching sound and felt some numbness.

Twelve hours later, it still hurts like the dickens.

And it's a wee bit red and puffy.

Hold me!

Edit: I've broken a few fingers in the past, so I'm all set to splint it to my ring finger. Thanks for the advice, and yes, the hugs are still appreciated because I? Am a wimp.

Go to the doctor! Stat! Stat! If it's broken it needs to be set correctly in order to heal the right way. And it sounds like it's a definite possibility that it's broken.

tape it to a Popsicle stick, and just try not to jar it anymore. Sadly, there's not much more you can do for a broken (or spraied, swollen, jarred) finger. Feel better! And quit typing! Picture? Please?

OW! Definitely get it checked out!

Big hug. Put a cold pack on for 20min and if the swelling isn't going down and the pain does not subside within the next two hours, go see a doctor.

Hope you'll feel better soon.

Oh that is certainly broken. It really needs to be set and cast otherwise you could lose a lot of mobility and it could heal like a claw. Bad bad, go go.

Aaaahhh! That sounds painful! Doctor? NOW?

Aww. If it hurts, you should stop doing that to yourself. :)

Ice it to reduce the swelling (peas usally work) take ibuprofen to help with pain & reduce swelling they can be taken 2 every 4 hours.
And splint it!
If it's still swollen & painful in the morning go to the doctors! A&E is usally the last resort as unless its life threatening you can wait all night to be seen

Not fun! I broke my toe at work last year and then worked the rest of the day before I finally went to the doctor. Am big idiot, I know.

Aw. I'm sorry. I hate that. I broke my finger in 5th grade and didn't set it because I didn't know it was broken and now it's all jacked.

Katie said...

Ouchies. There's not much you can do with a broken finger, but here's what I do: Go out to the shops and buy an ice-cream. Eat said ice-cream. Wash ice-cream stick and wrap against finger to keep it straight.

Hey, it works AND you get an ice-cream out of it! ;)

This is an example of why you should crack your fingers - it makes them more malleable, such that this wouldn't have happened!

Jokes aside, yeah you should get it checked out.

Here is one more intercontinental hug. Partially for the finger and partially because I'm really sorry about that Scrabble game. That was my highest score ever. Rematch?

Owie. Go get it checked out just to be safe! (Remember I work in healthcare!)

Ouch! Put some ice on it to help reduce the swelling, then go and get it checked out. A relative of mine once broke her toe (she kicked a paving slab instead of her dogs ball) without realising, and now she has arthritis in it.

Sorry. That's not very comforting, is it?

I wonder if everyone who says popsicle stick is from the same area, have parents who are physicians, or what... Do dumb Americans just splint it with household goods and say screw it, and really there is important first aid that needs to be administered? Interesting question...

Oh dear, feel better soon! I once jammed the knuckles of my two middle fingers in a rollerblading fall, and it hurt like heck for a couple of days. The only thing it keeps me from doing now is bowling more than a game or two. Hope your fingers heals without incident!

Vanessa said...

HUGE HUG! And get some ice on that finger. Any numbness? Don't mess around with that, go see a doctor.
