Three from Three

I can't believe that it's Friday - my first week as a lady of leisure and it's over already. I've already made some progress with my goals, and since my gym membership got renewed on Wednesday, I'm at 3 from 3 visits. Go me! I'm thinking I need to make my own little star chart, just like the motivated and super-awesome Britt.

Being back at the gym is eerily strange. The same people are there, and once again, I'm the biggest person there working out. The whole self conscious thing will fade after a few weeks, it always does - but ugh, I really hate feeling this way. I know, I know, nobody cares, it's a gym. And losing weight is why I'm there, right?

And so, I walk. I walk it out and I get into a zone, and that's what works for me. Every time I visit, my goal is to walk for at least 20-30 minutes at the beginning of my routine, before I switch to what suits me that day. I'm trying to switch up my days with arm weights & leg weights, and I plan to hunt down some classes that suit me too - but that takes a little bit of time for me to get comfortable with too. Once I get my fitness levels back up, I intend on braving spin classes again and I'm really keen to try out this Zumba phase that seems to be all the rage right now. I really wish that I had a buddy I could drag along with me.. ah well, bygones.

I don't just walk, though. I boogie. I boogie-walk. You know when you're walking and you hear a song with a decent beat, and you change your walk to match that beat? That's what I do. And if that means I sashay while I walk, so be it. It gets me pumped. I like to imagine that I'm strutting down a runway, America's Next Top Model style. Except that I'm wearing joggers. And I'm sweating. And huffing. A lot. I can only imagine seeing me from behind (although I think that I'm being discreet.. of course) - and I certainly don't want to know. All I know is that I like to boogie-walk.

Do you have any quirks that get you through your workouts?

Glad to have been helpful :) I love my little star chart, even if I feel 6 most of the time when I use it, I'm still pumped to put another star on the wall. :) I wish we lived closer (rather than on opposite sides of the world!) because I'd totally be your gym buddy.

I watched a video the other day of a lady who trains Gwyneth Paltrow and others. She has a 'dance on the treadmill' kinda work out where she actually skips and does sashays and things. It looks fun! (and probably super challenging for my less than coordinated self!)

Keep it up lady! And get some stars :)

I love finding a beat and exercising to it; I find it terribly hard not to. If that gives me an odd rhythm or something, pfft. Who cares? Long as I'm moving.

Lately I've found that my favorite part of a workout is right after I've done weights and you can feel the burn and everything's a bit swollen; flexing a bit makes you feel like a freaking champion even if you're just doing it for yourself and you look like a total dork. :)

I love that you boogie walk! I do that probably more than I should, even out in the non-gym world. Plain walking is too boring.

Well done my lovely! You know what I've realised about the gym? Everybody is so concerned with how they look they are too busy to look at anyone else!

Can't wait until you come home and we can go for a run here in Canbs! xx

I Know it's a bit crazy, but I feel like I'm leaving something incomplete if I stop exercising at any point in time that isn't a multiple of five. 18 minutes? No. 20 minutes? Yes. Accidentally went over a half hour? Best keep going to 35 minutes.

i'm trying the zumba classes soon, i'll let you know what it's like =) and i don't go to the gym, but anytime i listen to my ipod i tend to sing along (and dance in my chair) even if i'm in public and no one else knows what i'm listening to hahaha

I love to boogie walk... I pick faster songs on purpose because I know I'll walk to the beat. Although I need to get my finger out and actually DO C25K - August is coming around awfully quick...
Zumba is on at my gym on Tuesday night, and I'm going to give it a go!
I used to do a star chart, and then I got slack. Think I might have to take it up again!

I only walk boogie-walk.
Today I ran boogie-run. And didn't fall over.
I want to try Zumba too. But A. I am to cheap, and B. I have no one to go with and balls to going by myself.

I'm afraid to go to classes at regular gyms. I went to one on an Army base with a bunch of friends and that was fine but I'm just so damn uncoordinated that I really don't want fit strangers to see me falling over.

Once I start working out though, it gets better. If I keep it up for more than a week I know I'm good to go and will continue working out.
