A visit to Jamie's Italian - on Royal Caribbean's 'Ovation of the Seas'

Okay cruise lovers, you're going to LOVE this post!

We had the pleasure of being invited to visit the Royal Caribbean ship 'Ovation of the Seas' as she docked in Sydney Harbour on Friday - and what a vessel she is!
We dined at Jamie's Italian for the launching of their new menu, and my goodness, the food was incredible. From farm fresh produce, pasta and dishes all hand made in the restaurant, to lovely wait staff and beautiful views, it was amazing!
Meeting the man of the hour himself was the icing on the cake! What a lovely & humble human being.
We're a family that LOVES cruising, and this little taster is making us very excited to get out on the water again. Our girls (who range from 2-10) would have so much to do on this Royal Caribbean cruise - and hubby and I would too.
Do you and your family love to cruise?

Cake Maternity/Nursing Bras: A Review

Emma is seven months old, and still breastfeeds like an absolute champ! I'm very lucky in that all four of my babies have fed well (even through some initial hiccups like premature births and tongue ties!) - I've been at this nursing gig for some time now. I wonder how many hours I've been feeding over the last decade - I think it would be a pretty impressive figure!

I was so pleased when the lovely team at Cake Maternity reached out to see if I'd be interested in trying and reviewing some of their favourite nursing bras. I've followed their brand for some time now, but hadn't had the chance to purchase - so this opportunity was perfect. Before we start, here's a little about the brand: Cake Maternity are nursing bra specialists who are passionate about breastfeeding and the many benefits it offers to both mum, bub and the environment. Breastfeeding, whilst natural, doesn’t always come naturally and they understand that every woman’s experience is different and at times challenging. Their mission is to empower women as they mindfully navigate the world of motherhood and help make breastfeeding easier, through experience-driven innovation.

When you're breastfeeding, it's important to choose bras that are not only supportive, but also comfortable - if there's one time in your life you're going to be up close & personal with your breasts, it's now! After confirming my measurements and using the fit guide, we narrowed down the selection to three styles:

I've been wearing each of these three bras for the past several weeks, and can happily say that they're both comfortable AND supportive - so much so, that I will struggle going back to my everyday bras now! Now... on we go to my review!

The Tutti Frutti Nursing Bra is one one of the prettiest nursing bras I've encountered. It has a lovely low pluging neckline, a supportive racer-back design, and is so soft and luxurious. Emma can't take her hands off it when I wear it - see below!
Its nursing panels are easy to unclip, and it still has a good amount of modesty covering, even for someone who's bigger busted like myself. Such a beautiful staple piece, I feel really well supported when I wear this bra - and it doesn't feel like your typical dowdy nursing bra. A+ for glam!
The Zest Nursing Sports Bra has been fantastic, especially as I've been jumping back into my fitness after getting the all-clear from my postpartum physio. It's supportive without being restrictive, and being able to nurse while wearing active wear is a game changer for me.
If you're a Mama who loves to get out and go for walks or gym classes with your baby, you're going to love this one.
And last, but certainly not least, my favourite - aka the bra that I'd happily wear every single day for the rest of my life, is the Lotus Hands-free Pumping & Nursing Bra
This is the COMFIEST lounge bra I have ever worn, and it's not only easy to nurse in, it can also convert to a hands-free pumping bra. Winning! I am planning on heading back to snap up some more of these bad boys.
All in all, I'm thrilled with the selection and the support that these bras have provided, and will be wearing them for many months to come. If you're currently pregnant or breastfeeding, I highly recommend visiting the website and adding some Cake Maternity pieces to your postpartum wardrobe. The hardest part will be decided which ones to add to your cart!

The End of an Era

It’s the end of an era. There will be no more babies in this household.

I’ve thrown out the expired ovulation kits, the clunky old fertility monitor, the countless pee cups and even the stash of IVF medications living in my back fridge that I was too superstitious to discard until now.

This week marks the official end of our journey to parenthood. Now, it’s all about the journey THROUGH parenthood.

To those still struggling, hoping, grieving or worrying, you are strong. I’ll never forget this phase of our lives - where it taught us to be bigger, stronger, wiser, kinder on a path that nobody should have to face.

To those who supported me over the years, the excitement, the frustration, the jealousy. Through the darkest days of my life. Through the most joyous days of my life. To the ones who sobbed with me after we lost our babies. To the ones who cheered on a positive ovulation stick, who picked me up after yet another failed cycle. To the ones who celebrated our pregnancies even while going through their own journeys. You are the strong ones.

I will hug my girls tight every single day, and know that I’m going to raise them into their own strong warrior women, who will know how much we fought for them, and how much we love them.

Wacom Intuos: a review

Do your kids love to draw? If you've got a Creative Kid like Georgia, you need to check out the Wacom Intous - it's the perfect tool to get those imaginations running! We've been playing with it this past week, and it's been an absolute breeze to use.

All you need to do is connect your Intuos pen tablet to your PC or Mac, get your kiddos all set up, and you're good to go! It's a great, visual way for your kiddos to create, draw and explore, and really encourages creativity.

You can start simple with younger kids, and take it to the next levels when your children are older - the options are endless! Georgia decided to draw up her own pamphlet on looking after the ocean... completely of her own accord. It was a great conversation starter too!

I love seeing how their minds work when they have the creative freedom, and the resources, to do what they love!

Did you know you can use your $100 Creative Kids Voucher on a Wacom Intuos of your own?

Now's the perfect time to redeem it before the year runs out. Make sure you visit Wacom Australia and snap one up today - what will your tiny humans create on theirs?

elves in the wardrobe: a review

There are lots of baby and kids brands out there, and it can be hard to know where to start when you're looking to throw your support towards a small business. Elves in the Wardrobe is a one stop shop for organic clothing and accessories, and contain goodies from some of the most eco-friendly international and Australian labels. They're all about sustainability, ethical practices, and the softest organic cotton you'll find!
We have been gifted two beautiful items, and I'm thrilled to share them with you today.

This gorgeous Baby Rabbit Soft Toy would make the sweetest new baby gift or comforter - it's lovely and neutral, and oh so soft. Amelia took one look at it and claimed it as her own, now I don't have the heart to tell her it was a present for new baby! Made from natural, sustainable materials and organic cotton, it's the perfect size for little hands to hold. Isn't he sweet?

Speaking of new baby, this stunning Knitted Cocoon is absolutely exquisite. Made from 100% merino wool, it will keep your baby warm, safe, snug and comfortable without overheating. The Sand colour is perfectly neutral and it is designed to grow with your little one - with arms either in or out. Simply knot the bottom for a comfortable cocoon that will help keep your baby safe and sound from birth to approx 4 months of age.
I have my eyes on some more of their beautiful baby blankets and comforters, and I just know that you're going to love them too. Make sure you pop by and get browsing, but I warn you - there is so much to choose from, it might be best to grab a cuppa and put your feet up before you start!

You can sign up to the newsletter to receive 10% off your first order. Did I mention they have Afterpay available as well as free Australia-wide shipping for orders over $100?

Redsbaby Connect Plus: A Review

We are thrilled to have been one of the first families in Australia to use the brand new CONNECT™ PLUS Baby Carrier recently released by Redsbaby.

This collection has been thoughtfully crafted to nurture a connection between parent and child, and is so comfy to wear. It has a versatile tri-layer system that keeps it at an ideal comfort level for both warm and cooler weather, the only carrier to seamlessly convert between three layers within moments and it's lovely and breathable. The padding is perforated to provide airflow and comfort, and it stops you from getting sweaty under the straps while baby-wearing. And... did I mention it has POCKETS? You can slip your hands in to cradle baby skin-to-skin and provide soothing/comfort as you're wearing them.

Can you spy the beginnings of a new baby bump here? :)

Best of all, they are endorsed and certified by Healthy Hips Australia, which as you know is very important to me with Amelia's ongoing Hip Dysplasia issues. They are ideal for babies both with and without hip dysplasia, as they promote the safe positioning of baby's legs in the M-Position.

The CONNECT™ PLUS can be worn until your child is 3 years old. It has four carry options (inward facing-newborn, inward facing, outward facing and back carry) depending on your baby/toddler's preferences. It suits Amelia now, and we can also use from birth when our new bay arrives later this year.

Make sure you check out the entire range of carriers, high chairs and prams on the Redsbaby website. We can't wait to come back and look for a newborn-suitable pram when Baby #4 arrives!

Are you a fan of baby wearing?

Redsbaby Skip Stroller: a review

Having a baby with hip dysplasia has had its challenges - especially as our journey hasn't been a short one. Finding baby products that are hip-harness friendly has been a huge learning curve for us. Amelia has always worn a Rhino Brace, which keeps her hips abducted by splaying them widely in the correct position - which means that she doesn't necessarily fit into the things the way a regular baby of her age does.

That rang true for her bassinet (which she could not fit comfortably in with the harness on) as well as most regular sleeping bags, and even certain high chairs and prams.

We were recently sent a Redsbaby Skip Stroller to test drive, especially for those times when Amelia is out and about in her harness. Her current regime is to wear it for all sleeps, including day naps. If we are headed out for the day, it's important that she can still wear it while she is sleeping, to ensure she has the maximum amount of harnessed time as she can. The great news? She fits SO well in this little stroller!

The stroller itself is pretty nifty. It folds and unfolds so easily, and it can literally be carried over your shoulder - it's compact, lightweight and user friendly. This is the perfect travel companion, great for when you don't want your full-sized pram taking up loads of space. And when I say lightweight, I mean lightweight: it only weighs 6.5kg!

All of the little details are fantastic - beautiful embossed handlebars, stunning fabric on the hood and seat liner, plus a carry handle for when you fold it up and pop it over your shoulder. The hood is extendable with a zipper, and the basket is easy to access and holds up to 5kg weight.

So now you've seen it up close... how about seeing it in action? Amelia and I went for a walk to our local duck pond and gave it a good whirl! She is quite flexible while wearing her harness, so while her legs stay splayed outwards, she is also able to bend them at the knees - so the test was going to be how well she fit into the Skip Stroller while braced.
It worked SO well! She has fallen asleep in this pram on a few occasions now and if you know Amelia... you'll know that sleep is a miracle! Sign that she's comfy, I'd say. :)

I adjusted the footrest to be up and flat, so her lower limbs were better supported. The seat was reclined to a position that she was comfortable with - something that was as easy as squeezing and pulling. Did I mention that the Skip Stroller has a flat recline option? Perfect for babies of all ages and stages.

If you're after a lightweight option, or a second pram, I highly recommend the Skip. It ticked all of our boxes, and it's the perfect throw-in-the-boot option for all new parents!

EXCITING NEWS: Redsbaby are having a MASSIVE sale on prams and selected items as part of the Spring Frenzy, with 20% off until the 12th November. Grab a bargain while you can!

My Little Love Heart: a review

I swear, Amelia is the MESSIEST baby out of all three of my girls! Whether it's the constant dribble or the rather enthusiastic eating habits she has .. she's always a hot mess. And this Mama? She hates mess!! These beautiful handmade pieces from My Little Love Heart are just stunning, and perfect for keeping bub tiny (and adorable) during the day.

Bibs and teethers in beautiful neutral designs, made to perfection and best of all, from an Australian small business. Winning all round I'd say! There are loads of beautiful gift sets to choose from, in all sorts of patterns, prints and neutrals, as well as other beautiful keepsakes and treasures to shop for too.
They also make the sweetest headbands, that suit from newborns right through to little girls. Aren't they just so sweet?

Fantastic Services: a review

Life with three kids is noisy, it's fun, it's exhausting, but most of all... it's MESSY.
Hands up if you feel like you're never getting on top of the housework? I've threatened many times to just give up and clean the house properly when the kids move out (oh, in about 20 years time) - it's the never ending tasks that sometimes pile up and make it all seem too hard. Mum life = a constant juggling act!
We were lucky enough to be #gifted a domestic cleaning service recently from Fantastic Services and goodness, I am well and truly hooked. We have a double storey house, so we chose a few targeted rooms that we felt needed a little TLC - particularly bathrooms, kitchens and general living areas, as they get the most foot traffic on a daily basis.
The team arrived promptly, carried all of their own cleaning products, and were courteous and kind throughout the entire process. I was slightly mortified at just how messy our home was at the beginning of the clean, but the team were judgement free and got straight into the (rather enormous) task at hand.
Our kitchen and living area looked fantastic when they were done... and don't even get me started on the bathrooms - amazing.
Coming up to Christmas, a house clean would be an amazing idea for a family who enjoys useful or practical gifts for the festive season - or as a treat for yourself. Go on, you're worth it!
Best of all, if you use my referral code to register yourself on the website, you'll automatically get a $20 credit into your account ready for you to use - how cool is that?
What sort of service would you make use of - a one off clean, or perhaps something more regular?

Cushii Newborn Lounger: a review

Let's talk babies for a minute - because let's face it, who DOESN'T love talking babies? They are sweet, adorable little time wasters; that we already knew. They eat, sleep, and poop. Well - that's a given. But did you know that they're all incredibly different? Three babies in and I learn something new every day.

Enter Amelia - the youngest of our three, who has no choice but to go with the flow of what her big sisters are busy doing throughout the day.

Or so I naively thought!

Turns out, being in isolation amidst the Corona Virus Pandemic, has meant that she has ruled the roost and has been soaking up all the extra attention that she's been getting with everybody home and fawning all over her. The only downside to all the baby love: the baby does NOT want to be put down. Ever. At all. Nuh-uh!

We have been using the Cushii Lounger for these past few weeks, and I have to say, it's been an absolute lifesaver. It's one of the few places that I can put her down without her pitching a fit! We use it all over the house - it's portable, lightweight, and pretty freaking trendy too. Amelia has the Marula Blush colourway, but there are other neutral options available.

So.. here's what I love the most about our Lounger:

  • It's super lightweight - literally as light as a feather! You can pick it up easily with its own little handle, while you've still got a squirmy bub in your arms.
  • It's comfy! The photo to the right is from the very first time I popped Amelia into her Lounger, and she made herself comfy in it straight away. It can be used from newborn age and up, and is definitely worth the long-term investment. I wish I'd found one sooner.
  • It's perfect for baby skin! Made from TENCEL, it's great for sensitive little bodies. Coming from a family of eczema babes, being hypoallergenic is really important to us. It's also easy to spot clean and is machine washable.
  • It comes in a unique little carry bag. Perfect to keep your Lounger clean when it's not in use, or when you're ready to head out and take it with you.
  • It's CUTE! I know, I know - but let's be honest: we all like our baby gear to fit into our lifestyle and our nurseries. The blush is just lovely for us, but there are a few other colourways to choose from to suit every shape and style.

Just remember, these amazing loungers are to be used supervised at all times, and absolutely don't replace safe sleeping in bassinets and cots.

So go on Mamas, treat yourself to some hands free time - even if it is just for enough time to grab yourself a cup of hot coffee. Your bub will thank you for it! You can purchase your own Cushii lounger now on pre-order, with 10% off & free shipping if you use code PREORDER10. Afterpay is available too.

Breathe Gently was provided with a complimentary lounger from Cushii - all reviews are my own. If you are interested in a product review appearing on Breathe Gently, please email me.  You can also get in touch with me via my @mamajags Instagram page.

Baby Essentials

Three babies in and I've FINALLY figured out my must-haves for the new baby/infant stage. Times have changed so rapidly between my girls, and products have changed too - but I'm fairly confident that after having Amelia, I've narrowed it down to my all-time favourite goodies. I'm positive I've missed some, so I may just have to add to this list in the future as Amelia grows.

Lactation Cookies & Milk Saver Breast Pump

Breastfeeding is something I've been very lucky to experience with all of my girls, but it certainly doesn't come easily for all of us. Each of my girls has had their own issues - poor latch for Georgia, tongue tie for Claire, and Amelia had to deal with my engorgement and super fast let-down in the beginning stages.

I discovered lactation cookies when I was pregnant with #2 and my amazing SIL baked me a batch in the hospital, but I didn't use them religiously. This time around, I was more prepared! I had my stash of Milky Goodness cookies ready while I was still pregnant, and I've been a fan ever since. Full of natural ingredients and milk-making galactagogues, these babies are delicious and addictive.. be warned.

To go with them, you NEED a milk saver. This thing is worth its weight in gold. It attaches to your breast through simple suction and is really easy to use - I started with it from those first early days with Amelia. While bub is nursing on one breast, just pop it on the other - it catches precious drops from each letdown, instead of it disappearing into a breast pad/your bra. Swap sides and boom - milk! I haven't used an electric pump in the last 11 weeks and I have a freezer drawer full of expressed milk. I wish I had discovered this three babies ago! :)

Snuggle Me Organic Lounger

I researched these for months, way before we were even lucky enough to get pregnant with Amelia! They looked so comfortable for little ones to lounge around in, like they were getting a hug from all sides. There are plenty out there on the market, so finding the right one was important to me. I ultimately chose the Snuggle Me because it had excellent reviews, and didn't require any sort of assembly - plus being organic, I felt it was that little bit special against soft baby skin.

Amelia really likes it! I put her in it while we're doing shoots, but also while I'm busy with the other kids. She is currently 12 weeks old and we're also advancing to using it for tummy time too. As newborns, they fit snugly inside it, and as they get taller, their little leggies can prop over the edges - so it grows along with them. Do keep in mind, it is designed for supervised naps.

Handy hint? You can use a regular bassinet sized fitted sheet on these babies, so no need for expensive covers - just use what you already have! The one I've used in the picture here is a jersey stretch bassinet cover over the top of the Infant Lounger.

BIBS Dummies

We are pro-pacifier in this household, but Amelia wasn't having it in the early days. Once we'd established breastfeeding, I was determined to get her comfortable using it. Thankfully with some perseverance, she has taken to them like a champ!

We use BIBS dummies in the size 1, the old school round teat is great for little ones, and you can easily size up when you need them. They come in a wide variety of colours too.

I'd advise getting at least 4 of them - you never want to be without one, especially when you're out and about.

Wraps + Swaddles

You'd think that after three babies, I would have already been well versed in using wraps... ha! I have developed a complete obsession with them this time around. We use them for everything. Swaddling, shade covers, wraps, liners for pram bassinets, breastfeeding covers, bedtime blankets, you name it, we've used it.

I'm a huge fan of the Snugglehunny Kids wraps with their gorgeous vibrant prints, but honestly, I've never met a swaddle I didn't love. Whether it's lightweight muslin wraps for the summer, or stretchy jersey wraps for the winter, you're sure to find something you love.

How many wraps is too many wraps? Asking for a friend, of course.

Handmade Playmats + Pram Blankets

When it comes to items that are handmade, I'm a huge supporter - but my favourite handmade clothing stores deserve a post all of their own; I could go on allllll day. What I'd love to share with you though, is a store that not only sells stunning girls' clothing, but also unique handmade playmats and bespoke pram blankets.

I had been looking for a statement piece to put in Amelia's nursery, but also wanted something that could be used around the house and on the go. This floral playmat ticked all the boxes - gorgeous, lightly padded, lightweight and reversible. Did I mention it was handmade? Because OH MY GOSH. It's divine.

This beautiful business is all about slow fashion, so you won't find huge quantities or mass produced pieces - instead, you'll find more unique styles and in limited runs, so don't wait too long if you see something you love.
