Spencer-pup, v2

If you remember my previous post, Spencer was due to visit a new grooming salon after a less than positive experience. Well, he did it! :) Spencer had his first grooming experience that was POSITIVE - with J's help, of course. He was frightened, poor pup, but he managed to be bathed, combed & clipped; even had his paws and toenails tidied.

He didn't get the whole grooming experience {since we wanted to ease him into things} but it was a great start. We were really happy with how lovely & gentle the groomer was, and how beautiful he smelled afterwards. Lots of inside cuddles for this handsome man. We'll be booking him back in for another round in a few weeks, and hopefully this will continue to get him used to the ordeal. Just goes to show that a kind and patient groomer is SO important.

Oh, this puppy dog. It's been a while since I mentioned how the fur-babies are doing. The fur babies are great; Oscar and Evie are loving life & are SO good with Georgia. It's so sweet to watch them interact with one another. Georgia is ALMOST saying 'cat' when she sees one, and they lie next to each other quite a bit. Other than the trauma of their annual vet visits, they're happy little indoor kitties.
Spencer is also doing really well. He lives predominantly outside, but comes in for visits - though we have to do a toy shuffle beforehand. Georgia's toys go in her toybox; Spencer's toys go on the rug. ;)
Handsome man.
Spencer is such a gentle giant. He loves Georgia, would lick her to death if we would let him. Unfortunately, while he wouldn't hurt a fly, he's also a big fraidy cat when it comes to being groomed. We bath him out the back in his swimming pool, but he's frightened of going in the car, and he's even MORE frightened of strangers trying to groom him. We tried to get him done again today - and despite me warning them over the phone well in advance that Spencer was nervous - they rang 15 minutes after we dropped him off & said they couldn't handle him.

Poor puppy. He's such a sweet boy, but he is so easily frightened. I rang around a few other places today after this morning's disappointment, and have found a lovely lady who we're going to try next week - she's happy for us to stay with him during the wash, and will start slow - even just a bath if he gets too nervous. She's dealt with scared dogs before, and is happy to try and give him a pleasant experience. We'll see how that goes. I hope she can tidy up some of his fur (and give him a good stripping, right down to the undercoat) because he LOVES lying in his wading pool in summer & gets a lot of matted fur. I've already had to cut some out, which I hate doing to his lovely coat; but the mats get so big, so fast. Hopefully by next Tuesday, he'll be a new pup.
Spencer says 'YAWN. Baths are for losers.'

18 weeks + 4 days

Thanks for all your reassurances over Monday's upcoming morphology scan. I'm still nervous {surprise!} but I'm also really, really looking forward to seeing baby girl again. The excitement trumps the nerves, always.
I wish there was a better description of what round ligament pain feels like. I have done lots of research, and I'm fairly sure that's what I'm feeling lately, but it's just so.. not concrete. Today, I've had pain down one side - worse when I'm up standing, and better when I'm lying flat. I'm also having weird twinges in the ladyparts; where my cervix is, I imagine? Hoping all is well, but these little pregnancy cramps and spasms are weird, man.

It's been a while since I've share my not-so-little guy here on the blog, but he's doing beautifully. Spencer is  missing his daddy, he's going to go nuts when Jase gets back from Germany. The kitties are also doing well, with Evie being my snuggle-bunny at night & Oscar being my front-door protector. He's there with me whenever it rings. I may be a novice at being pregnant & having kids, but I absolutely adore being a fur-baby mama.

See how he grows!

I've had a few requests for more Spencer updates, and I am happy to oblige! :) Oh, this dog.

He is an absolute joy to have around; I've never seen my husband smile and laugh quite so much as when he's playing with his dog. It's a joy to watch. Spencer is a good boy; your typical golden retriever. He adores meeting new people, and seems to recognise regular visitors, which is awesome. He digs holes, he chews everything that moves, he's a puppy! He's growing at a really rapid rate. (All muscle... and fluff.)

We've been taking him to a puppy class, which will lead into a beginner's obedience class, which eventually turns into quite rigorous training. I think we'll keep him there until he's at least six months old, because he's learning a lot - and he's getting much better with meeting other dogs. He spent the first class with his head hidden under our legs, and was terrified by the other young puppies and their excited barking. Thankfully, we've had some more progress with him over the weeks, and he's learning how to be a social, happy little man.

In the meantime, here's a photo walk-through, showing just how fast he's growing from puppy to big dog.

He'll be 4 months old this weekend, and I'll take another updated picture. Seriously, he's getting cuter by the second.

Spencer - 4 weeks on

Those feet! I die. He's going to be such a big boy.

On Anovulatory Cycles & Puppy Teething

I wish I had something positive to write about in terms of where we're at in the TTC-journey. It's CD22 and I'm still nowhere near ovulating (if I do at all) so despite using the OPK sticks & the Fertility Monitor regularly, things aren't working. This is with Clomid, too. Seriously - I must be the most unresponsive ovulator on the planet.

The main decision I have to make over the next week or so is when to bite the bullet & start taking Provera to bring on a period. I want this cycle over, which makes me think I should start taking it tomorrow. But at the same time, what if I'm just a couple of days away from potentially ovulating late? Super faint OPK's mean nothing in the grand scheme of things... but do I give it more time and see? I'm so over this. At least with IVF you have a good idea of your time-frames. I don't know.

In the meantime, how about a token puppy picture? Spencer has grown so much in a week - his stubby legs are starting to get bigger, he's eating more, and he's full of energy. He's also discovering that chewing & digging are FUN FUN FUN past times. (Not so fun for us!)

We've worked on a few little training commands - mostly getting him to know his name, to come and to sit. Staying is next on the horizon. He's such a goofball. Oscar & Evie are getting braver, though Oscar has smacked the puppy a few times for coming too close too quickly. They'll get there!

Introducing... Spencer

Our baby boy is home - and he's so handsome! Meet Spencer, our chubby little Golden Retriever puppy.

It's safe to say I am totally smitten already. There is nothing sweeter than puppy breath and I am so, so looking forward to him growing up with our little family. I'm more ridiculously happy right now than I can say.
