You and Me: Putting The Dress On

With the boys on their way to the church and with the girls' hair and make-up done, there was only one thing left for me to do. It was time to get the dress on.

The girls had already changed into their beautiful grey bridesmaid dresses while my hair was being finished off. They looked stunning, seriously.

I snuck into the bathroom to get my sassy sucky-inny-undergarments on. When I returned, it was just my mum and my girls waiting in the room, ready to help me slide into my wedding gown. As soon as she saw me, my mum took it upon herself to get teary and come give me a hug. I not-so-gently replied to her cuddle with a 'GET OFF THE DRESS' outburst, which caused us to get the giggles while I attempted to keep the unbuttoned dress from falling off.
It was time to do me up, buttercup. I was so, so nervous about the dress fitting me.
I've never sucked in my guts as much or held in my breath for as long as I did during those few minutes. As soon as I knew the dress was going to zip up and close after all, I relaxed.
We borrowed an old silver button-hook from my grandmother to help us with the tiny buttons down the back of the gown.
My dad hadn't seen the dress before - I loved seeing his reaction for the first time.
Next up, the most awkward part of the dressing stage - shimmying into my lace bolero! Some of the expressions I pulled wiggling in to this thing were priceless. (Seriously: watch the wedding video.)
It was on! It fit! My boobs were snug! Huzzah! With me done, I helped my dad pin on his simple flower corsage. (When I say helped, I really mean 'fumbled stupidly thanks to my long nails', but you get the idea.)
After all of my indecisiveness, I decided on just one pair of wedding day shoes after all - the ivory ones! My Maid of Honour helped me into them while I hoisted the lower layers of my dress up out of the way.
A little wedding day perfume was sprayed on - not without more face pulling, of course. I chose j'adore: it's feminine, light and will forever remind me of our wedding day.
We were just about ready to walk out the door, but wait... what about the gorgeous veil I had borrowed from Mrs. French Fries to wear for the ceremony?
Well, in the heat of the moment, I completely forgot about it. As in, hadn't even given it one single thought. And.. uh oh, our make-up and hair stylists had already left - with all the hair pins. Yikes! The girls improvised to get it wedged into my hair style, MacGuyvering it up with pins from their own hairstyles to keep it firmly in place.
With the veil wedged in as good as we were going to get it, it was really time to go!

Let's start at the very beginning - it's a very good place to start.

You and Me: Suit Up!

The boys didn't purchase their suits for our wedding, they hired them. This seems to go against most of the trends in wedding world right now, but all of the groomsmen agreed that they didn't particularly need another suit, so this option worked perfectly for us.

Having not been there to see the guys getting ready, seeing these photographs gave me a serious case of the warm and fuzzies. The boys all helped each other getting dressed, and seemed to be having fun while doing it!

Have I mentioned how gorgeous Jason looked in his suit? The hubs scrubbed up pretty darn good on the wedding day, if I may say. Legend.. wait for it.. dary. (Oh yes, I went there.)

Turns out that pinning on button-holes can be hard work. Check out all of those looks of utter concentration. Priceless!

With suits on and everyone looking dapper, the boys indulged in a few champagne toasts...

... before heading outside for some family and group shots.

Jase personalised the groomsmen's suits by gifting them individual ties and cuff-links in shades of grey.
Token suit picture of my hubby coming right up... oh wait, that might just be for me. :)

After their leisurely morning, Jase and the boys jumped into their sweet ride - my dad's convertible Mustang - and headed to the church.

You and Me: Bride Gets Beautified

I was the last to get made up on the morning of my wedding day. I liked the idea of lazing about and watching everyone else get beautified - though looking back, I almost wish I'd gone first. Even though the morning began in a laid back and relaxing fashion, time quickly started disappearing. It was time to get my face on.

Jenny began lightly airbrushing my foundation on (which we had used in my trial, previously and loved) - but we had barely started when we had a visitor to the hotel room. The flowers had arrived! That was met with crazy clapping and much excitement on my part, I couldn't wait to see how beautiful they looked.

If you remember my previous blog about flowers, you might recall that other than sending a few inspiration pictures over, I'd given our florist free reign to create bouquets and centrepieces based on whatever flowers were in season in our colour palette.

I could not be happier with my flowers. Seriously, I wouldn't have changed a single thing. I mean, check out my awesome bouquet! It had the most gorgeous greenery, it was just the right size, and it had the perfect splash of antique pink roses thrown in it for good measure.
I could go on and on about how wonderful my flowers were (have I mentioned that they were perfect?) but I'll leave you with one more for good measure before I carry on. Can you spot anything Weddingbee related tucked in amongst the blooms?

I reluctantly left the flowers and headed back to the make-up chair, where Jenny continued making me over.

For someone who doesn't wear make-up, I really loved how it turned out on the wedding day. It was the perfect amount for me, with beautiful long lashes and nice pale lips. I wish I could be made over every day!

With the make-up on, it was time to get going with the hair - and time just kept rushing by, quicker than ever.

Now was about the time I started to get nervous and decide that I'd run out of time to get ready. Even before my hair was finished, I asked my Maid of Honour to start handing me jewellery so I could get busy multi-tasking.
The final touches went into my hair, with lots of spray and my ivory flowers.
All preparations aside.. it was time to get the dress on!

You and Me: The Boys Take It Easy

While the girls were in a flurry of activity all morning, the guys had a lazy start to the wedding day. Casual clothes and a few rounds of pool? I kind of wish we'd gotten ready here too!

My dad drove over from the hotel to Jason's parents home to deliver the button-holes and corsage for his mother.  I love how they're all peering into the box to figure out who's is who... and how to put them on, of course.

My dad also arrived to orchestrate the gift swap between Jase and myself. After dropping off Jason's gift, he hoofed it back across town to our hotel room... except he forgot something. My present!

Jase quickly called my dad to come back and pick up the parcel, before proceeding to open the card and present I'd chosen for him.

I'd chosen a new watch for him - one that was a little more formal and would be perfect for the wedding day and for special occasions.

With the flowers on hand and gifts exchanged, it was time for the boys to suit up!
